Story Lab Week 14
For week 1 I chose to do a story lab instead of a story. The
post I am choosing to read about is “Why you should open yourself up to the
possibilities of Story” by Anthony Ehlers. In this story he talks about writers
block and that one of the tactics is to just write every title down that goes
with the subject you are going to write about. This might spark a little flame
to start writing. Or another tactic is to just start writing and let your
imagination take the lead, such as with the case of the girl getting off the bus
and then coming back to no bus. She asks around and no one ever saw a bus or
even remembered her. This is an example of letting your imagination take the
lead. One of the writers quoted “Writers have no real area of expertise. They
are merely generalists with a highly inflamed sense of punctuation.” This was
said by Lorrie Moore, I found this quote interesting because I don’t know if I fully
agree with this statement, because I do believe writers have an expertise in
their field, because when they are generating a story they are thinking ahead
of what the character will evolve to or what the next step to a story is to
make it hard to put down.
