Story Lab: 3 Simple Ways to Kick-Start Your Writing

Image
For this assignment i decided to do a story lab over the article 3 Simple Ways To Kick-Start Your Writing by Anthony Ehlers. This article is about three main points, Suess it up, Rewind and Review and Dear Me. Suess it up discussed about loosening your stiff writing muscles, by writing something you would find say in a  Dr. Suess book. This will lead to a possibly better story, or having more of an open mind. The second point talked about editing your story. To edit effectively  you should print out the last few pages written , and then make gentle corrections, or add in a new word phrase. The final section called dear me talks about doing pretty much a brain dump. This consists of writing down everything on a note pad that is on your mind, and this is useful in clearing your mind to start a new story with a clean slate. The section of this article that i would say is most beneficial to me was rewind and review. This is because often i do not edit as much as I should, or i edi...

Reading Notes: Narayan's Mahabharata Part B

Image
The reading I am doing notes over is the Narayan’s Mahabharata Part B. In this reading I found the Shakuni and Duryodhana section very interesting and a great story could be made from it, by carrying the original plot to a new setting. In this section Shakuni suggests to Duryodhana that revenge can be made via a game of dice against Pandavas. This is because Shakuni is an expert player, while Yudhishthira has no talent in this game. Vyasa warns Pandavas of the bad omens he sees. A great hall will be built by Dhritarashtra to rival the great hall of Pandavas. Vindura invites Pandavas to the crystal palace for a game of dice. Yudhishthira cannot deny it so he and Pandavas go to Hastinapura. The plot I can take from this story is that you want revenge on someone, so you challenge them to something you are very good at. But something they are not, and them compete in a field where you are most comfortable. Readings Source:  Narayan’s Mahabharata Part B (The picture is of the g...

Reading Notes: Naryan's Mahabharata Part A

The reading I am doing writing notes over is the Narayan’s Mahabharata Part A. For this week’s reading I really found the section “The escape from the fire” very interesting, and would make a good topic for a possible new story. In this section Dhritarashtra has made Yudhishthira his heir, but he does not like his heirs popularity. Duryodhana and his brothers are not very popular with those of Pandavas .   Purochana who is an agent of Duryodhana builds a house of “joy” for Pandavas. The house was made of very flammable material to make it very easy to catch on fire. Then pandavas set fire to the house and escaped through a tunnel, but everyone around thinks he has died. The Plot I could use for this story is escaping a trap people do not realize you know of, and then living in hiding.
