Week Seven Story: The Showdown


The date was set for October 6, 2018. Two legendary teams are bound to face off in one of college footballs biggest rivalries in ne of the most iconic stadiums. This is the Red River Rivalry the battle between the Sooner and Longhorns, Lincoln Riley and Tom Hermon, Kyler Murray and Sam Ehlinger. While currently Texas leads the series and is looking for revenge on OU for winning the past five of seven games. OU has a different form of revenge in mind, they are looking at the greater picture of taking over the lead in this constant rivalry.

OU has prepared for this upcoming showdown for months on end. This year they have the advantage of a greater fanbase painting the cotton bowl more crimson than there will be orange. This plays into the comfort affect for the Texas players and they will play even worse than they normally do. This will help the OU offense and defense stay on top of their game with the thousands of OU fans cheering them on and getting them fired up.

 The time is set, the fans will be off the charts in OU’s favor and Texas will not even know what hit them. All that has to happen is Lincoln Riley prepare for battle and get his troops as ready as possible. They are the ones that are most comfortable in this setting. They are the ones that have an amazing program on the national level with seven national championships, and they are the ones that will demolish Texas in the Red River Rivalry. As soon as the Sooners burst out of the tunnel it is game over for the longhorns, this is because this game is all about being comfortable, confident and owning the game from the beginning, which is what the Sooners are best at.

Authors notes
In this section Shakuni suggests to Duryodhana that revenge can be made via a game of dice against Pandavas. This is because Shakuni is an expert player, while Yudhishthira has no talent in this game. Vyasa warns Pandavas of the bad omens he sees. A great hall will be built by Dhritarashtra to rival the great hall of Pandavas. Vindura invites Pandavas to the crystal palace for a game of dice. Yudhishthira cannot deny it so he and Pandavas go to Hastinapura. The plot I can take from this story is that you want revenge on someone, so you challenge them to something you are very good at. But something they are not, and them compete in a field where you are most comfortable. I tied this plot into the story above that OU will play Texas in football in a stadium more favored towards OU, with OU having another advantage of being better at football.

    Hi Drew! Unfortunately, I comment on this story post OU-Texas, but I loved reading about the history of the rivalry. I've grown up watching OU football for the past twenty years, so I've seen my share of rivalry games. I like how you do a good job of explaining the history between the rivalry and showing how heated it is for this mashup especially.

    I refuse to dwell on the game yesterday, and instead I will focus on your story. I enjoyed it very much. You did such a great job setting up the history of the rivalry. Also, the comparison between the football game and the dice game is very clever. What if you add a jab about Texas always trying to be bigger and better when you describe the Cotton Bowl? All of us Sooners would appreciate that.

    As bummed as I am about the game, it was fun to read a Story centered around a more rivalry-centric contemporary theme. In the height of football season and as a member of the band I loved the inclusion of some Red River history- it worked well to build up the anticipation for the epic showdown. Your reimagining of the source material definitely made this Story your own. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey Drew,

    Lets not even think about Ou/Texas, we will get them next year. Back to your story, I thought it was so clever of you to bring the concept of the epics into the current and real world that we all live in such as in the football game. I honestly would have not thought about this idea but it is perfect the way you wrote it. I just wanted to keep reading more and more and find out the ending. I look forward to reading more of your stories.

Week 5 Story: Just a Game

Tom was an All-American hockey player and was the best in Pittsburg. He had major dreams of going to the NHL one day but now he was only 17 and could only work on perfecting his craft. He cam up through the ranks as a young boy being the best on any rink he stepped foot on. He once had a teammate whose name was Jared, who he had done wrong to unintentionally, but Jared never seemed to forgive him.   They came up through the ranks together all the way to their senior year where both of them ended up being drafted by the Pittsburg Penguins.
