Story Lab Week 14

For week 1 I chose to do a story lab instead of a story. The post I am choosing to read about is “Why you should open yourself up to the possibilities of Story” by Anthony Ehlers. In this story he talks about writers block and that one of the tactics is to just write every title down that goes with the subject you are going to write about. This might spark a little flame to start writing. Or another tactic is to just start writing and let your imagination take the lead, such as with the case of the girl getting off the bus and then coming back to no bus. She asks around and no one ever saw a bus or even remembered her. This is an example of letting your imagination take the lead. One of the writers quoted “Writers have no real area of expertise. They are merely generalists with a highly inflamed sense of punctuation.” This was said by Lorrie Moore, I found this quote interesting because I don’t know if I fully agree with this statement, because I do believe writers have an expertise

Reading Notes: The Search for Sita

The story I am doing reading notes over is the search for sita, found in Gould. The Divine Archer part B. In this story Rama slays Vali with an arrow. Then after the monsoon season the search for sita began. Hanuman is helping rama with the search so he gives him a token, then heads south to the shore of the sea where they meet a vulture. This vulture tells then that sita is in lanka. Hanuman jumps to lanka and in the process he jumps over an enormous monster. What I got from this story is that if something on the other end of a journey or a task is important to you, you will fight through all obstacles to get to that end result. Reading Notes: Sitas Departure

The story I am conducting reading notes over for this week is Sita’s Departure found in Gould Divine Archer part B. In this story Sita sees Rama up on the throne and she calls out to mother earth. And asks mother earth to take her if she has been true to Rama. A golden throne appears from the earth where sita takes a seat and then disappeared to the earth. What I got from this story was that if the ones you love do not believe you in the time they need to the most, then the only way they will see the truth is by losing you. Week 13 Story: The Great Race

One brisk December day in the northern providence of British Columbia. There was set to be a great ski race, between two of the country’s greatest skiers. Anna was the best skier British Columbia had ever seen, she was younger and did not have much big race experience. Jennifer was an Olympic gold medalist for Canada as well had many other medals under her belt. On the line of the race was acceptance to the following years Canadian Olympic team, as well the recognition of being the best. Anna was very nervous, as she knew she was fully possible of winning but still had small reserves of doubt. She had watched Jennifer her entire life fly down the mountains, taking medal after medal. Jennifer on the other hand had confidence through the roof, thinking of this as just another race. They decided to meet up two days before the race for coffee at the base of the mountain. Reading Notes: Rama Marches on Lanka

The reading notes are conducted over “Rama Marches in Lanka” from the reading of Gould, Divine Archer. In this Rama and his army build a large bridge to lanka, that was engineered by the two monkeys Nala and Nila. Once Rama crosses over the bridge he signals his arrival to Lanka by shooting one of his arrows into Ravana’s own court, in the action of doing this Ravana’s crown gets knocked off.   In this story I took that the theme was that if you are going into enemy territory, go boldly. Reading notes: The Death of Dasharatha

The story I chose to complete for the reading notes was “The Death of Dasharatha” from the Goud. Divine Archer. In this story The king realized that Rama’s exile fulfilled   long-ago curse. This is because as a young man, rama killed a boy that he thought he was an elephant. Dasharatha was cursed when he told the poor, blind parents, that he too would suffer the loss of a son. Then Dasharatha died after telling the story. From this story I can create a story following a similar plot. Story Lab: 5 Storytelling Software Options for Busy Writers

The week 12 story lab I chose to write about was the “5 Storytelling Software Options for Busy Writers.” I thought this would possibly be helpful to me because I am often very busy, so maybe some of the software would be found useful to me. The five different Softwares consisted of Scrivener, Aeon Timeline, Story Mill, Storyist, and The Novel Factory. The 3 that would seem to be most helpful to me was the StoryMill, Storyist and the Novel Factory. With Story mill you can keep track of how many times you use a word. You can also set a daily writing goal that needs to be reached. I believe this would benefit me because often times I do not write every day, and when I do, I tend to repeat words, so this software would help me diversify my vocabulary. The Storyist helps the writer track the plot, characters, settings and helps keep the writing organized so that the writer can focus on telling the story. I believe this would be beneficial to me because if I can keep the process leadin
