Story Lab: 3 Simple Ways to Kick-Start Your Writing

Image
For this assignment i decided to do a story lab over the article 3 Simple Ways To Kick-Start Your Writing by Anthony Ehlers. This article is about three main points, Suess it up, Rewind and Review and Dear Me. Suess it up discussed about loosening your stiff writing muscles, by writing something you would find say in a  Dr. Suess book. This will lead to a possibly better story, or having more of an open mind. The second point talked about editing your story. To edit effectively  you should print out the last few pages written , and then make gentle corrections, or add in a new word phrase. The final section called dear me talks about doing pretty much a brain dump. This consists of writing down everything on a note pad that is on your mind, and this is useful in clearing your mind to start a new story with a clean slate. The section of this article that i would say is most beneficial to me was rewind and review. This is because often i do not edit as much as I should, or i edit too big

Reading Notes: Narayan's Mahabharata Part B

Image
The reading I am doing notes over is the Narayan’s Mahabharata Part B. In this reading I found the Shakuni and Duryodhana section very interesting and a great story could be made from it, by carrying the original plot to a new setting. In this section Shakuni suggests to Duryodhana that revenge can be made via a game of dice against Pandavas. This is because Shakuni is an expert player, while Yudhishthira has no talent in this game. Vyasa warns Pandavas of the bad omens he sees. A great hall will be built by Dhritarashtra to rival the great hall of Pandavas. Vindura invites Pandavas to the crystal palace for a game of dice. Yudhishthira cannot deny it so he and Pandavas go to Hastinapura. The plot I can take from this story is that you want revenge on someone, so you challenge them to something you are very good at. But something they are not, and them compete in a field where you are most comfortable. Readings Source:  Narayan’s Mahabharata Part B (The picture is of the game

Reading Notes: Naryan's Mahabharata Part A

Image
The reading I am doing writing notes over is the Narayan’s Mahabharata Part A. For this week’s reading I really found the section “The escape from the fire” very interesting, and would make a good topic for a possible new story. In this section Dhritarashtra has made Yudhishthira his heir, but he does not like his heirs popularity. Duryodhana and his brothers are not very popular with those of Pandavas .   Purochana who is an agent of Duryodhana builds a house of “joy” for Pandavas. The house was made of very flammable material to make it very easy to catch on fire. Then pandavas set fire to the house and escaped through a tunnel, but everyone around thinks he has died. The Plot I could use for this story is escaping a trap people do not realize you know of, and then living in hiding. Week 5 Story: Just a Game

Image
Tom was an All-American hockey player and was the best in Pittsburg. He had major dreams of going to the NHL one day but now he was only 17 and could only work on perfecting his craft. He cam up through the ranks as a young boy being the best on any rink he stepped foot on. He once had a teammate whose name was Jared, who he had done wrong to unintentionally, but Jared never seemed to forgive him.   They came up through the ranks together all the way to their senior year where both of them ended up being drafted by the Pittsburg Penguins. They were both climbing up the ranks on the team and found themselves to be two of the best on the team, let alone in the NHL. Time came and the captain of the Pittsburg Penguins at the time retired. The coach had two guys in mind to take his place, Tom and Jared. Tome was in the better position to take the job because of the connections he had made with the rest of the teammates, but Jared would not let this stop him.   Because way back when T

Reading Notes: Divine Archer B

Image
For Reading Notes B I am continuing   with the book called DivineArcher by F.J Gould . The Section of this book in part B that drew my Attention this week was the section labeled Sita’s departure. I found it interesting because I believe it will be good to make an original story from. While easily changing characters and setting but keeping the same plot. This section is when Sita comes and sees Rama on Ravana’s throne. Then she asks Mother Earth to take her if shehas been true to Rama. Next a golden throne emerged from the earth, where Sita sat and disappeared into the earth. This plot could be made into a great story for an addition to the portfolio. Reading Notes: Divine Archer

Image
The Book I decided to read for this assignment was DivineArcher by F.J Gould . The section of the book that drew my attention this week was the section labeled the succession. This is when King Dasharatha was planning on making Rama his successor which his guru urged him to do so quickly. But because Kaikeyi was once granted two wishes, Dasharatha must do what she wishes. Kaikeyi demands that Bharata, Rama’s brother be named the successor and Rama be sent into exile for fourteen years. I chose this story for the story notes because I am thinking of some character changes that could take place to create a story for the portfolio. Story Lab: Writers Lab

Image
I used the story lab assignment to navigate the Writers Write website that was provided, and I read two of many helpful articles. One of the helpful articles was 10 Good Reasons To Read More Books I thought this was a good read because it hit on many points. One of the points that stuck with me was “You can keep your brain simulated”, this is interesting to me because it is something I try to do in periods of free time whether it is between classes, after class or before exams. I believe keeping a stimulated mindset throughout the day is key for a successful day. The second point that was interesting was “You’re less likely to be a terrible person”, this caught my attention because I had never really thought of it before. But after reading it talks about that reading improves empathy, helps your ability to communicate, as well as boosts your creativity. The second article I chose to read was Create PowerParagraphs For Stronger Storytelling . I chose to read this because sometime

Hanuan lets Indrajit, Ravana’s son, capture him and bring him to Ravana. Mahodara offers to defeat the monkeys. Hanuman is inclined to trust Vibhishana but Surgriva and Jambavan are suspicious.       Because Sita is terrified for Rama’s well being she makes Lakshmana go help him. When Sita is left alone, Ravana picks up the ground she is standing on and fly’s away with her. Jatayu tries to rescue sita from Ravana but is killed in the process, but before he dies tells Rama and Lakshmana which way ravana went. Rama and Lakshmana head south to the monkey kingdom where the Hanuman sees there coming and disguises as a scholar which Rama sees right through. The demon Mayavi challenges Vali, then Vali chases Mayavi into a cave. Then Sugriva loses his wife. Vali can not mount Matanga because of a curse that was placed on him from when he killed Dundubhi and hurled its carcass, so it fell near the sage Matanga and angered him. Sita threw her jewelry when she was kidnapped, and the monkeys found it on the ground, then give it to Rama and agree to help find her. Sugriva challenges Vali, which vali laughs at. Rama hides and shoots at Vali during the fight. Then Vali argues with Rama if

Feedback Strategies

Image
The two Articles I chose to read were Be a Mirror, and the difference between praise and feedback. The first article focused of 5 qualities for good feedback. First being be specific with the feedback, the second point being focus on what the reader is doing. The third being focus on the process, showing the writer there time was valued. The fourth point was make sure it can transfer, meaning make sure they can use it in other aspects other than that one assignment. The fifth and final being take yourself out of the feedback, make it about them and less about you. Some takeaways from the second article were do not just praise someone on what they  have done, but get more involved with them, appreciate it and ask questions. Encourage both positive and negative feedback, the negative feedback is just ground for improvement. Pay attention through out so that in the feedback you can be descriptive about something very specific needing improvement. In my opinion feedback is necessary fo

Topic Research: Indian Elephants

Image
The Topic I chose to go into more depth in was the Indian Elephants. Airavata was the elephant rescued by the god Vishnu. First Story could go along the lines the theme of Airavata's rescue, but with characters changed. The second Story could go along with the theme of Airavata coming out of churning the ocean of milk, and the elephant guarding one of the points of the compass. The third story i could possibly use is Airavata protecting his respective quarter, and i could change characters and have that animal protecting some other holy thing. Week 3 Story: The Past Comes to Haunt

Image
Cody Smith was a professional bull rider who had worked many years to get to where he stands today. And that is at the entrance of the PBR World Finals. This is where the elite of the elite ride and shoot for that eight seconds. Cody was a man who loved what he did and could not see himself doing any other profession. One of his biggest enjoyments of bull riding was seeing and riding different bulls each month that are brought to competition. Cody was getting ready for the first night of competition, getting his gloves and bull rope together. He would get in his pre-riding zone blocking out all distractions, and that’s when he knew he was ready. The announcer called for all the riders to come draw the bull that they were going to rid that night. Cody walked to the office and drew his number then walked over to the board where the list of bull names was posted. Cody stood in shock, this night he was bound to ride Midnight Magic the 2,500 lbs  of pure muscle bull. This is not wha

Feedback Thoughts

The first Article that I chose was Why rejection hurts so much and what to do about it . Everyone gets down on themselves at times, and this article did a great job at pointing out what people do to bring themselves down, and what people should do to be happy and bring themselves back up. A couple points he mentioned was that you need to have a zero tolerance for self- criticism, know your self -worth and revive it. Be social and do things with others even if the first option doesn’t work out, go to the next. The next article I read was Seven ways to crushself-doubt . This article did a great job of setting up a guideline of what you need to do to crush your inner self doubt. A couple points that the author mentioned that I thought were good points, consisted of Abandon perfectionism, Don’t Compare yourself to others, trust yourself, and embrace a growth mindset. These 4 points were the main ones that stuck with me that I will try to put into play in my everyday lifestyle. In

Topic Brainstorm

Image
The First topic that stuck out to me was the Weapons of the gods . I am interested in this topic because different styles of past and present weapons intrigue me. I have no knowledge of he weapons of the gods. I would like to learn what weapons the gods had and how and when they would use them. I might retell stories as battles or something along the line keeping the weapons in their natural atmosphere. The second story topic I thought was interesting was the Animal characters of the Ramayana . This interests me because I’m very interested in all animals, and I want to see what twist is put into the animals throughout the Ramayana. I have no previous knowledge of the animal characters of the Ramayana. I would like to learn what the different characters were and what they represent f applicable. If I were to choose this I would focus the different stories maybe in a first-person view of the animal character. The third topic that caught my attention is Epic Hero’s . This is a possib
